The United Arab Emirates is accelerating private sector participation in its ambitious space program through increased contracts to domestic companies, as revealed during the high-profile 'Make it in the Emirates' conference this week.

Amer Al Sayegh, deputy assistant of Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), emphasized that the UAE isn't simply courting temporary contractors but seeking long-term partners committed to establishing permanent operations in the country. This strategic shift comes as authorities increasingly channel projects through private enterprises.

"Following global leaders like NASA, we're transitioning from government-led projects to private sector execution," Al Sayegh explained during a panel discussion. "This approach delivers faster implementation, greater efficiency and superior outcomes - exactly what we're implementing through initiatives like our Payload Hosting Initiative tender for local firms."

The space official detailed how Emirati companies are now being entrusted with complete mission development responsibilities: "We're building private sector capabilities across all our programs - whether satellite construction, rover development, exploration missions or astronaut training."

While we maximize local partnerships through our satellite programs, rover initiatives and space exploration missions, international collaboration remains essential for cutting-edge advancement."
