Dubai's ambitious Umm Suqeim Street Improvement Project, a Dh332 million initiative designed to revolutionize connectivity between Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, is now over 70% complete. The transformative infrastructure development features an impressive 800-meter tunnel with four lanes in each direction, promising to dramatically enhance traffic flow across the city.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), recently inspected the rapid progress of this critical project. As part of the comprehensive Umm Suqeim Al Qudra corridor masterplan spanning 16km from Jumeirah Street to Emirates Road, this upgrade represents a strategic leap forward in Dubai's transportation network.

"This visionary project forms a crucial link between Dubai's four major highways: Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road," explained Al Tayer during his site visit. "When operational, it will boost the corridor's capacity to an astounding 16,000 vehicles per hour while slashing travel times between key routes by an unprecedented 61% - reducing journeys from nearly ten minutes to under four."

Strategic Connectivity for Growing Communities

The 4.6km infrastructure marvel will serve as a vital artery for some of Dubai's fastest-growing areas including Al Barsha South districts (1-3), the thriving Dubai Hills community, Arjan residential zone,and the innovative Dubai Science Park - collectively home to over one million residents.

The project centerpiece involves completely redeveloping the Umm Suqeim-Al Barsha South intersection near Kings' School with both an advanced signalized junction and its showpiece tunnel system running beneath.The current phase builds upon earlier successes including Phase I completed in2013 (connecting Sheikh ZayedRoadtoAlKhailRoad)anda500-meterfour-lanebridgeconstructedin2020toserveDubaiHillsMalltraffic.
