Summer Gold Rush: Dubai Jewellers Gear Up for Seasonal Gift Shopping Spree
Business
As the mercury rises in Dubai, so does the glittering demand for gold and diamond jewellery. With summer vacations approaching, expatriate communities are flocking to jewellery stores across the emirate, seeking the perfect gifts to carry home - from wedding presents to milestone celebrations.
Dubai's jewellers report a seasonal surge in sales as residents prepare for their annual homecomings. "The summer travel period always brings increased jewellery sales," explains Shamlal Ahamed of Malabar Gold & Diamonds. "We're seeing strong demand for lightweight, travel-friendly pieces that make ideal gifts."
The tradition of carrying Dubai gold back home remains strong among Asian expatriates, though industry experts note some changes in buying patterns. Joyalukkas representatives highlight that "gold from Dubai still carries prestige as a symbol of quality and purity," with advantages in both pricing and design variety compared to many home markets.
"Whether it's elegant bangles for mothers, solitaires for siblings or wedding ornaments," notes their statement, "these purchases represent more than just metal - they carry deep emotional significance."
Liali Jewellery's Anuraag Sinha confirms the seasonal trend: "Despite Dubai's summer heat, we see increased footfall as residents shop before traveling." He adds that GCC tourists and events like Dubai Summer Surprises further boost business during these months.
However, Titan Company's Aditya Singh observes some moderation in this traditional shopping pattern. "The price difference between Dubai and Asian markets has narrowed recently," he notes. "Combined with vacation schedules reducing local shopping time, we're seeing slightly muted demand compared to previous years."
