Sinner Opens Up About French Open Heartbreak: "Sleepless Nights After Epic Alcaraz Final"

Jannik Sinner at French Open

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has revealed the emotional toll of his grueling five-set defeat to Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open final, admitting to struggling with sleepless nights following the marathon match.

The 23-year-old Italian star, who squandered three championship points after leading by two sets in what became Roland Garros' longest-ever final (5 hours 29 minutes), spoke candidly about processing the painful loss as he prepares for his grass-court campaign in Halle.

"I've had some restless nights since Paris," Sinner confessed to reporters. "But with each passing day, the disappointment becomes more manageable. While tennis means everything to me professionally, my family and friends matter more than any trophy."

The Australian Open champion acknowledged constantly replaying key moments from the epic showdown against his Spanish rival. "The match keeps coming back to me," said Sinner, who missed adding a third Grand Slam title to his collection after triumphs at Melbourne and Flushing Meadows.

Returning home to Italy's Trentino-South Tyrol region provided much-needed solace for the young star. "We kept things simple - backyard barbecues, table tennis matches with childhood friends," he shared warmly. "In those ordinary moments surrounded by loved ones is where I find my peace."

Sinner emphasized how crucial this homecoming was after enduring both physical and emotional exhaustion from his clay-court exploits: "When life gets overwhelming, there's no place like home where I feel completely secure."

Grass Court Redemption?

Now turning his attention to defending his Halle Open title following a mid-May return from suspension (unrelated to doping violations), Sinner discussed adapting his game for grass: "The surface creates unpredictable bounces that demand smart serving strategies," he explained about transitioning from clay. "Last season marked real progress on grass for me - we'll see if we can build on that foundation this year."
