Dubai's RTA Unveils Dh165 Million Upgrade for Mall of the Emirates Access

Business

Dubai is set to revolutionize access to one of its most iconic shopping destinations with a major infrastructure overhaul. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has greenlit an ambitious Dh165 million project to enhance road networks around Mall of the Emirates, promising smoother journeys for millions of visitors.

The centerpiece of this transformation will be a sleek new 300-meter bridge along Sheikh Zayed Road, designed to whisk motorists directly into the mall's parking facilities. This strategic addition aims to dramatically improve connectivity from key areas including Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali.

Smart Mobility Solutions

"Our vision extends far beyond just adding another bridge," revealed Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Director General. "We're implementing comprehensive smart mobility solutions that will cut travel times by up to 90% for some routes while significantly enhancing safety across the entire precinct."

The project scope includes innovative upgrades such as converting Kempinski Hotel's adjacent street into a two-way thoroughfare and modernizing three major signalized intersections. Pedestrian and cycling enthusiasts haven't been forgotten either, with dedicated lane enhancements forming part of the holistic redesign.

The engineering marvel promises staggering time savings - reducing what was once a 10-minute crawl from Abu Dhabi/Jebel Ali to just 60 seconds, while Umm Suqeim commuters will see their journey halved from 15 minutes down to eight.

"This isn't just about moving cars faster," Al Tayer emphasized. "It's about creating seamless multimodal connectivity that integrates perfectly with our metro system through enhanced pedestrian bridges at Mall of the Emirates Station."

Since its grand opening in 2005, Mall of the Emirates has grown into more than just a retail hub - it's an entertainment powerhouse hosting Ski Dubai and VOX Cinemas' regional flagship alongside luxury hotels Kempinski, Sheraton and Novotel Suites.
