UAE Residents Celebrate Soaring Gold Prices as Smart Jewellery Investments Shine

Over the past year, gold prices in the UAE have surged by nearly Dh100 per gram — turning everyday jewellery purchases into unexpectedly high-yielding investments for many residents.
Last summer, the price of 22K gold hovered between Dh279 and Dh290 per gram. Today, that same gold is priced at over Dh380 per gram, reflecting a remarkable climb that has surprised even seasoned buyers.
Global trends support this local surge. According to data from the World Gold Council, prices have been on a consistent upward trajectory since Q3 of 2023. The average gold price per ounce rose from $1,928.5 in Q3 2023 to a significant $2,859.6 in the first quarter of 2026 — an increase of nearly $800 year-on-year.
Rajitha Nair, a UAE-based communications professional, shared how her decision to buy gold jewellery in 2024 turned out to be a wise financial move. “When I purchased it, the 22K rate was around Dh290 per gram. I monitored prices regularly and sensed it was the right moment to buy,” she recalled. “With current prices exceeding Dh380, the same piece would be far more expensive now. It’s incredible how much the value has appreciated in just a year.”
For Rajitha, the investment holds both emotional and monetary significance. “Jewellery is more than just adornment. It’s a meaningful asset that brings joy and financial security,” she explained. “Gaining Dh100 per gram within a year is a substantial return for something I love to wear.”
Similarly, Pooja S., a marketing professional and longtime UAE resident, bought gold jewellery when the price was Dh277 per gram. “If I were to buy those pieces today, I’d easily spend Dh2,400 to Dh2,500 more,” she noted.
Beyond jewellery, Pooja also invests in gold bars and coins. “Gold is one of the few assets that consistently holds value. It provides stability and peace of mind in uncertain times,” she said.
Both women agree that now is the time to hold rather than sell. “Gold prices are showing steady momentum,” Rajitha added. “It’s wise to wait. Holding on a bit longer could lead to even better returns.”
She also highlighted gold’s enduring appeal. “It’s not just about profit. In our culture, gold symbolises security, beauty, and legacy. It connects generations and traditions in a way few other assets can.”
Jewellery retailers echo this sentiment. Nirmal Kumar, senior executive at Yogesh Jewellers, called the Dh100-per-gram jump within a year “impressive.” He emphasized that many customers who bought gold in early 2024 have seen exceptional returns — all while enjoying the beauty of their purchase.
“Coins and bars remain popular for pure investment,” he said, “but jewellery offers both emotional and financial value. Whether it’s 18K or 21K, gold jewellery combines tradition with lasting worth.”
Aditya Singh, head of the international jewellery business at Tanishq (Titan Company), noted that consumer preferences have evolved. “We’re seeing more interest in versatile, lightweight pieces that suit multiple occasions. Younger buyers, especially, want jewellery that reflects their personal style and tells a story.”
He added that today’s buyers demand transparency in pricing and sourcing. “Customers want to know where their gold comes from, what the making charges are, and whether it’s certified. Trust and authenticity are key to modern jewellery retail.”
As global prices continue to rise, gold remains one of the most trusted assets in the UAE — offering residents not only a piece of heritage and beauty but also a tangible return on their investment.
