The UAE’s Ministry of Interior, represented by the Federal Traffic Council, announced on Monday its pioneering traffic initiative, the Accident-Free Day. The initiative coincides with the launch of the ministry’s quarterly Safe School Year campaign.

The initiative will kick off on August 25, 2026, which also marks the first day of the new school year, and aims to enhance awareness about safety, prevention and traffic protection for all road users.

How you can participate

To participate in the UAE’s Accident-Free Day, residents must take a pledge to adhere to traffic rules on the ministry’s website. If residents follow traffic rules and abide by the pledge, 4 traffic points will be deducted from their records automatically.

To benefit from the ministry’s incentive, residents must submit their pledge on the ministry’s website before August 25.

The UAE’s Ministry of Interior added that the deduction of points will take place electronically by September 15, 2026, without the need to visit service centers.

Key traffic rules to follow

The UAE’s Accident-Free Day initiative aims to reward those who adhere to the pledge and do not violate traffic laws.

The ministry urged drivers to wear seat belts, abide by speed limits, maintain a safe distance, respect pedestrian safety, maintain focus on the road and give way to emergency vehicles, ambulances, police and official convoys.

Brigadier Engineer Hussein Ahmed Al Harthi, chairman of the Federal Traffic Council at the Ministry of Interior, emphasized that this initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance traffic safety by disseminating and highlighting traffic laws designed to enhance the road environment and safety and protect lives and property.

“In cooperation with all partners, we are keen to launch pioneering initiatives that raise awareness by promoting positive behaviors that encourage the community to adhere to traffic laws,” said Al Harthi.

Initiative to reduce recurring traffic violations

He noted that launching the UAE-wide Accident-Free Day initiative, which falls on the first day of the school year, emphasizes its importance, given its priority in ensuring the safety of children and students and ensuring a safer and more secure environment.

Al Harthi added that the initiative aims to reduce recurring traffic violations, including wearing seat belts, giving way and maintaining a safe distance, and adhering to speed limits. These all contribute to the protection and safety of road users.

Al Harthi called on UAE residents to maximize the use of these initiatives and engage with them, expanding community awareness and civilized adherence to laws, emphasizing that the responsibility to maintain road safety is shared.
