According to the latest figures from Numbeo, the average price for a one-kilometre taxi ride in the UAE stands at just Dh2.50, placing the country 76th worldwide. This means UAE residents and visitors pay significantly less than passengers in high-cost destinations like Switzerland (Dh17.26), Japan (Dh11.94), or Germany (Dh10.58).

It’s an impressive ranking, especially given the UAE’s modern transport system, strict regulations, and high service standards. With its clean, well-maintained taxis and trained drivers, the nation has managed to keep prices low without compromising on quality.

Regionally, the UAE sits 21st out of 32 Asian countries, while Kuwait tops the regional list as Asia’s most expensive destination, averaging Dh11.97 per kilometre. On the other end of the spectrum, the Philippines takes the global lead for affordability, with fares averaging just Dh0.92 per kilometre.

For passengers in Dubai, a standard taxi ride begins at Dh12, and total costs depend on distance, travel time, and traffic conditions. Even so, when compared to other major international cities, a trip across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or Sharjah still offers genuine value for money.

Fuel prices have also contributed to stable fare levels. As of November, Super 98 petrol is priced at Dh2.63 per litre, down from October’s Dh2.77, while Special 95 is Dh2.51 and diesel sits at Dh2.67 per litre.
