Drivers across Dubai and Abu Dhabi are beginning to experience a new era of convenience as both cities roll out barrierless, ticketless parking systems designed to eliminate queues, reduce congestion, and make parking faster and easier than ever before.

The UAE’s major urban centres are accelerating their transition toward smarter infrastructure, adopting cutting-edge technologies such as automatic licence plate recognition, AI-powered traffic monitoring, and cashless automated payment systems. This move aligns with the country’s broader vision for smarter, more efficient mobility solutions in everyday life.

These modern systems remove the need for traditional parking barriers and paper tickets, allowing vehicles to glide in and out of facilities without interruption. By automating payments and vehicle recognition, motorists save time while city planners benefit from smoother traffic flow — particularly in busy retail and commercial areas.

The rollout began earlier this year, with several of Dubai’s most popular destinations among the first to adopt the technology. At the Mall of the Emirates, the barrierless parking system went live in February, following a similar launch at Deira City Centre in January. Developed by Majid Al Futtaim in collaboration with Parkin PJSC, the system represents a major step toward seamless entry and exit operations across the city’s shopping hubs.

A few months later, BurJuman Mall joined the list of barrier-free parking destinations in May, offering a fully ticketless paid parking system that integrates automatic detection and updated fee structures. New policies — including revised grace periods and improved user guidance — make it easier for visitors to adapt to the system while ensuring efficient use of space.

Meanwhile, the Al Aweer Central Fruit and Vegetable Market is preparing for a large-scale deployment of the same technology. Managed by DP World and Parkin, the site will feature 2,500 spaces for light vehicles and 500 for trucks. The integration of licence plate recognition and real-time data aims to streamline logistics, reduce waiting times, and enhance the experience for traders and transport operators.

The expansion of smart parking solutions has been swift. By mid-2026, Parkonic announced the addition of 18 new locations across Dubai, bringing its network to over two dozen sites. These include Union Coop branches in Nad Al Hamar, Al Twar, Silicon Oasis, and Al Barsha, along with high-profile destinations such as Heera Beach, Marina Walk, The Beach JBR, West Palm Beach, and the Museum of the Future.

Cashless and ticketless systems are also in operation at Dubai Harbour’s on-street parking, Global Village (premium parking), Sofitel Downtown, and The Palm Monorail. At these facilities, motorists are automatically charged through Salik, Dubai’s road toll system, or can manage payments via dedicated apps and kiosks.

The concept is also gaining momentum in Abu Dhabi. The capital recently introduced “Zero Barrier AI Parking,” a system developed by Q Mobility and unveiled during Gitex Global 2026. The platform integrates advanced cameras, automated licence plate recognition, and intelligent traffic management to create a frictionless parking experience.

In July, Abu Dhabi announced an expansion of its partnership with Salik and Parkonic to introduce ticketless paid parking in additional malls across the city. Under this scheme, parking fees are seamlessly deducted from drivers’ Salik accounts, with alternative payment options available through the Parkonic mobile app, website, or on-site kiosks.

The Nation Towers was among the first in the capital to embrace the system, officially launching barrierless parking in June. It now stands as one of several key Abu Dhabi destinations to adopt the next generation of parking technology — marking a clear step toward a more connected, cashless urban mobility network.

As Dubai and Abu Dhabi continue to lead innovation in transport and city planning, the rollout of AI-powered parking solutions signals a future where efficiency and convenience define the urban driving experience. What began with a few malls is now evolving into a citywide standard — one that ensures drivers can move, park, and pay without ever needing a ticket or barrier again.
