A new Nissan Sentra bowed for the 2026 model year, sporting refined, upscale styling outside and in. There’s more standard equipment now, and the range-topping SL trim returns. While the base price increases $810 from the 2025 model, the Sentra remains among the most affordable new cars available.

Trim Levels and Safety Features

The 2026 Sentra’s entry-level S trim remains a fairly basic economy car, with 16-inch steel wheels, cloth upholstery, manually adjustable front seats and a four-speaker audio system. It does, however, offer a few upscale touches like LED headlights and taillights, remote keyless entry and starting, and a new 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system (compared to 2025’s 7-inch display) with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The 2026 Sentra features more standard safety tech than its predecessor, including forward collision warning with pedestrian and bicyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure prevention, blind spot steering assist, rear cross-traffic alert, a driver attention monitor, automatic high beams and road-sign recognition.

For less than $1,000 more, the SV adds 16-inch aluminum wheels, proximity keyless entry, remote starting, nicer cloth upholstery, automatic climate control and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

Nissan doesn’t tweak the SR’s suspension, steering or brakes, but it does give it a sportier look with 18-inch wheels, upgraded LED headlights, a dark-chrome grille, sill extensions and a spoiler, as well as red SR badging. The SR also features heated side mirrors, a wireless phone charger and two more speakers, for a total of six.

The SL trim is the most luxurious Sentra, boasting a moonroof, synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control and an eight-speaker Bose sound system. The SL rides on 17-inch wheels and also adds a power-adjustable driver’s seat.

Lane-centering steering, a 360-degree camera system and rear parking sensors with automatic braking are optional on the SR and standard on the SL.

Powertrain Specs and MPG

The Sentra’s powertrain carries over from the last generation. A 149-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine makes 146 pounds-feet of torque and is mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is the only available drivetrain layout.

Nissan says the S and SV trims return an estimated 30/38/33 mpg city/highway/combined, while the SR and SL are rated at 29/36/32 mpg (official EPA estimates are not yet available for the 2026 model). That’s mid-pack for the class, leading competitors such as the Hyundai Elantra and Mazda 3 but trailing the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. The Sentra does, however, undercut all four on base price.
