Malaysian Boy with Rare Condition Gets Life-Changing Gift After Heartbreaking Video Goes Viral

News

A heartwarming story of human kindness has emerged from Malaysia, where a 5-year-old boy born without knees and calves has received custom-made walkers from generous donors after his struggles touched millions online.

Muhammad Shairid Hadif Ridhuan Shah, who suffers from Caudal Regression Syndrome, captured the nation's attention when his mother Siti Azah shared a heartbreaking TikTok video on February 17. The clip showed the determined youngster crawling to his first day of pre-school in Johor using slippers on his hands for protection.

The emotional 30-second video quickly went viral, amassing over 3.1 million views and 144,000 likes. As the footage spread across social media platforms, an outpouring of support flooded in from compassionate netizens offering financial assistance and words of encouragement.

Among those moved by Shairid's story was Muhd Idrus Harun, an iron workshop worker and former Royal Malaysian Air Force personnel. Rather than donating money like others had offered to do, Idrus decided to put his metalworking skills to use by creating a specially designed walker tailored to the boy's unique needs.

"I wanted to help because I know what it's like to struggle," Idrus told mStar news from his workshop in Kedah. "I can't provide monetary assistance, but I knew I could at least help with this."

The father of three explained that while he typically makes awnings and grilles for work, he took on this special project at cost (approximately RM500/S$151) as a way to ease the burden on Siti Azah - a single mother raising five children alone.

While Idrus' thoughtful creation is still en route as of late February reports indicate Shairid has already received two other custom walkers donated by equally kind-hearted individuals - all thanks to that initial viral moment showing his daily challenges.

Siti Azah expressed profound gratitude through another TikTok post: "Thank you everyone who has helped whether through donations or getting these special walkers for us... I cannot repay your kindness except through prayers for your wellbeing."The overwhelming response demonstrates how social media can connect those in need with willing helpers while highlighting both human resilience and compassion working hand-in-hand against adversity.
