8 Cat A Electric Cars to Check Out in Singapore Before Rebates Shrink in 2026

Car

Singapore’s electric vehicle (EV) market is buzzing with options — but if you’re planning to buy one, now might be the best time to act. Starting January 2026, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will reduce several EV rebates, making today’s deals look even better.

Currently, cars under Band A1 of the Vehicular Emissions Scheme (VES) enjoy a $25,000 rebate, but that will drop to $22,500. On top of that, the Electric Vehicle Early Adoption Incentive (EEAI) will be cut from a maximum of $15,000 to just $7,500. Combined, this means the total savings for new EV buyers will fall from $45,000 to $30,000 next year.

If you’re eyeing an affordable EV, your best bet is one that qualifies for a Category A Certificate of Entitlement (COE), which caps power output at 110kW (147hp). Thankfully, there are plenty of Cat A EVs in Singapore — from compact hatchbacks to sleek sedans and spacious SUVs. Here are eight worth considering before the rebate revision kicks in.

Kia EV5

Kia’s first locally assembled SUV, the EV5, brings a bit of Singapore pride to the electric scene. Built at the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Centre in Jurong, it’s one of only three “Made in Singapore” models.

Two variants — Air and Earth — share the same 130hp motor but differ in range and battery size. The EV5 Air offers a 62.4kWh battery with 400km of range, while the EV5 Earth packs 88.1kWh and goes up to 540km. Inside, the EV5 is practical, with generous space and a handy pull-out storage compartment that doubles as a mini table. Prices start at about $214,000 with COE, making it a strong contender for those seeking comfort, tech, and a local badge.

MG S5

The MG S5 takes aim at the ever-popular BYD Atto 3 with a balance of value, practicality, and style. The 133hp SUV has a 62kWh battery delivering around 425km of range, and it’s priced from $201,888 with COE.

The S5’s interior design is modern yet simple, featuring a 12.8-inch infotainment screen and rare physical buttons for air conditioning — a welcome touch in today’s screen-heavy cabins. While its software feels a little sluggish, the S5 makes up for it with generous space and comfort. It’s a solid choice if you want something slightly different from the usual Atto 3 crowd.

Aion V

Chinese brand Aion has made an impressive debut with the V SUV, blending luxury features with wallet-friendly pricing. The Premium variant (64.5kWh) delivers 435km of range, while the Luxury version (75.3kWh) goes up to 485km. Both produce 134hp and 240Nm.

Inside, you’ll find features like reclining rear seats, massage functions, and even an integrated mini fridge — uncommon perks for this price range. It rides smoothly too, with comfort levels that rival premium brands. Starting at $191,888 with COE, the Aion V offers serious value and refinement.

Tesla Model Y 110

Tesla has introduced a new Cat A-friendly Model Y variant for Singapore. With 147hp and 350Nm of torque, it offers a 62.5kWh battery and 466km of range — all for $211,365 with COE.

It’s quieter and more comfortable than before, now featuring a sleeker design inspired by the Cybertruck, a new rear touchscreen for passengers, and power-folding rear seats that expand the boot to over 2,100 litres. While it’s not the fastest Tesla, it’s easily one of the most complete electric SUVs you can buy under Cat A.

Volvo EX30 110kW

Volvo joins the Cat A EV market with its compact EX30, available in Plus (51kWh, 337km range) and Ultra (69kWh, 475km range) variants. Power output is capped at 147hp, keeping it within Cat A limits.

Despite its reduced output, the EX30 remains quick and nimble, with strong torque and confident handling. It’s small and easy to manoeuvre, making it ideal for city driving. Inside, the minimalist 12.3-inch touchscreen may take some getting used to, but overall, this is a well-built, premium-feeling EV. Prices start from $236,000 with COE.

BYD M6

Need space for seven? The BYD M6 is one of the few seven-seater EVs under Cat A. Its 134hp motor and 71.8kWh battery deliver a respectable 440km of range, while its roomy second row makes it a practical family choice.

The M6 isn’t flashy, but it’s functional and comfortable, equipped with features like a panoramic sunroof and adaptive cruise control. At $201,888 with COE, it’s perfect for larger families wanting to go electric without overspending.

Citroën e-C4X

French flair meets everyday practicality in the Citroën e-C4X. This quirky sedan-crossover hybrid produces 134hp with 270Nm of torque, supported by a 54kWh battery and 436km of range.

It offers a comfortable, soft ride — true to Citroën’s reputation — and even includes massaging front seats in the Shine Plus trim. Though its design and interface take some getting used to, the e-C4X’s $185,999 price tag makes it one of the more affordable European EVs in town.

Ora Good Cat

Rounding off the list is the irresistibly cute Ora Good Cat — a 141hp hatchback with a 63kWh battery and 420km range. It’s fun to drive, compact enough for city use, and filled with personality.

Inside, the Good Cat surprises with quality materials, dual digital screens, and decent rear space. Priced at $191,999 with COE, it’s a cheerful option for younger or first-time EV buyers who want style as much as substance.

Why You Shouldn’t Wait Until 2026

When the rebate changes take effect in January 2026, EV buyers could lose up to $15,000 in savings. That’s a major reason to act fast if you’ve been considering an electric car.

Singapore’s Cat A EV market is more exciting than ever — with plenty of models offering strong performance, generous range, and smart tech at accessible prices. Whether you want something family-friendly, premium, or simply eye-catching, there’s a Cat A EV waiting for you.

So before those rebates shrink, now’s the time to charge forward and lock in a better deal on your next electric ride.
